WHICH GBQ FOR 2003?
OR THE ARCHITECT AS LIBRARIAN

The Laureates of the International Architecture Contest of
theGrande bibliothèque du Québec on display

What kind of library does Québec need in 2003? Five teams of architects have been invited to reflect upon and to answer this question. The resulting proposals are not merely good packaging, stylish exercizes or even pretty jewels of aesthetics, but five serious and different visions of what could be the Grande bibliothèque du Québec...

Walking around the five models presented at the International Architecture Contest, the visitor is allowed to go through five different experiences. Images, sketches, and extra documents render near and clear the details of the winning project as well as the four other proposals. Architecture is a determining factor in our way of living our knowledge.

These five models and projects are there to promote international exchanges of ideas and our own collective thought process, as well as the final project itself... This being a project, of course, that the public will have the opportunity to discover here three years before its completion and on the very site of its implementation. This is therefore the time to examine, to visualize, to understand and even, to love this chosen project or not, before the opening.
